American Idol can suck it. The Voice has more talent, better “judges” (aka coaches) and a more insightful way of finding America’s next great voice. There was a flood of talent (and a few lesbians) last night— was really hard not to like any of the singers. But after the season premiere, I’ve already been won over by Connecticut native Javier Colon. His cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” was absolutely beautiful - I bet Cyndi would be proud! Did you watch The Voice last night?
I am seriously stunned. Someone quick call a medic- I may have died. If this is what 2011 is going to bring us, then bring it on! Clare Maguire is quickly becoming a favorite of mine - she already won me over with her incredible single Ain’t Nobody - and this one is even better. With each release, an even better song comes out. The Last Dance has club beat undertones, heavy drums, and vocals similar to the incredible Kate Bush & Annie Lennox. Clare will have goosebumps crawling up and down your arms and into your bones. You will immediately head to iTunes to download anything she as to offer - and be kicking yourself for not doing it sooner. Mark my words, Clare is one to watch in 2011. Incredible.
For you Girls Aloud fanatics out there, you may remember Emma Deigmann on their last tour. For the rest of us, we’ll know her as Edie, the 21 year old beautiful singer with soul from the UK. She’s been busy working on her debut album (set to be released sometime this fall - it’s gonna be a great fall indeed!) and has released her first single, “In My Bed.” The song is not as dance-driven as the current lady sensations on top of the charts, but this song is really driven by Edei’s voice. It’s nice to hear an artist that has Top 40 potential not using auto-tune or other computer generated techniques to manipulate their voice.
The same team that helped Joss Stone become a household name has been busy at work, helping Edei find her musical style. Edei is beautiful, has a solid voice and a pop-jazz-rhythm & blues blended style, that is currently lacking from Top 40. Her first single should appeal to listeners of all ages. It’s a good blend of Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse and The Saturdays, if you removed the up-beat dance tempos and replaced it with a few horns and some funk. Mixing credits on her album include Tom Emlhirst, whose previous credits include Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” and Adele’s “Chasing Pavements.” Vist her site to download a free acoustic version of “In My Bed” and show your support by downloading the song on iTunes. Can’t wait to hear what the rest of the album has to offer!
And a chance it was. The 12 year old Greyson Chance has become an overnight celebrity, with his cover of “Paparazzi” by Lady Gaga. He’s already appeared on Ellen, received a phone call from Ms. Gaga herself and has more than 25million views of his performance. Not only that, with a following of more than 150,000 fans on YouTube, he is one of the top 30 most followed YouTube people! Watch out Justin Beiber- Chance has already hit puberty and he’s only 12. Chance will be Ellen’s first artist for her NEW record label, Eleveneleven.
